You know how much we love our dogs. We only want the best, which is why we feed them top of the line dog food – and, of course, dog treats (with fruit!) made by yours truly!

Remember when Nell started sneezing for like 10 minutes straight and said, “I think I'm allergic to the dogs!”? I replied with, “Well, nice knowin' ya kid!” and told her to pack her bags. ;) I mean, 14 is old enough to move out, right? Just kidding, but seriously our dogs are the loves of our lives, and the loves of our kids' lives. We absolutely adore them both.

Unfortunately, Titus decided not to grace us with his presence tonight. He was scared of the camera, so he grabbed the treats and ran. Both Isis and Titus came back for seconds, so the treats must be pretty yummy.

easy no bake dog treats

These are no-bake treats, which makes them extra delicious and convenient. We started our Homemade Dog Treats recipe out with a great base: the Classic Real Chicken + Green Peas Recipe with Ancient Grains. Starts with real deboned chicken as the first ingredient for a 30 percent protein level. The first five ingredients in Merrick's recipe are: deboned chicken, chicken meal, peas, turkey meal and brown rice. This is a potato-free recipe.

Place all ingredients except the flax seeds in a food processor, and blend thoroughly.

Add the flax seeds after you've scooped the mixture into a bowl. You might need to blend some (extra) dry dog food separately to make sure the treats roll and stay together nicely. We froze ours for about 30 minutes before giving them to the dogs. I'd say 1-2 treats at a time is a good amount. While they're healthy, they are still treats – and they're pretty big, too!

  1. What a beautiful girl Isis is! I’ve never seen anyone use dog food as the base for treats–very cool, and nice that they are no-bake!
