This French Onion Chicken meal is quick to make and is a family favorite! If you are following Weight Watchers, it is low in points too on all new plans!
You may be thinking I'm crazy for trying to make Weight Watchers French Onion Chicken, but I did it and IT TURNED OUT GREAT! What a great way to switch up the normal chicken routine and it's only 1 point!
If you are on the blue or purple Weight Watchers plan, this French onion chicken bake is only one point! Even if you are on the green plan you can still have it for only four points and it is very filling and a healthy alternative to other chicken meals or casseroles.
When calculating the points for this recipe I made the serving size for 3 even though it is only two chicken breasts. Also, I calculated the chicken breast total as 8 oz. I don't know about you but when it comes to me eating a chicken breast I can never eat the whole thing so if you were on Green and worried about points just know you can dial back the serving size and replace it with a hearty vegetable dish to counteract the other points.
In my opinion, this French Onion Chicken is more of a comfort food meal which is perfect because the point value is so low. If you are looking for a side dish that would complement this I would highly recommend Instant Pot cabbage, air fryer green beans, deviled eggs, or air fryer corn on the cob.
French Onion Chicken
Ingredients for French Onion Chicken
1 medium onion
1/2 cup + 3 tbsp low sodium beef broth
1 tbsp flour
2 boneless skinless chicken breast
salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning to taste
2 oz fat-free mozzarella cheese
How to Make French Onion Chicken
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees
- In a skillet, spray with nonstick cooking spray and saute onion and 3 tbsp beef broth until onions are tender; set aside
- Season chicken breast with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning; cook in skillet until browned on both sides; set aside
- Return onions to skillet and sprinkle with flour until onions are coated
- Add 1/2 cup beef brother and stir until mixture thickens
- Pour into 9×13 baking dish and add chicken on top
- Top each chicken breast with 1 oz of cheese
- Bake for 20 minutes or until chicken is fully cooked
- Spoon onion gravy over chicken breast and serve
