Of course, the best black bean burgers would be made with Bush's black beans! Bush Brothers beans are the ultimate ingredient for all kinds of recipes. Today, I'm sharing our favorite black bean burger recipe for this sponsored post with Bush Brothers.
Bush's black beans are a pantry staple in our house because they're so versatile. We keep them on hand for last-minute meal ideas, and are stocking up on them for our No Spend month coming up. It's important to sneak in protein to every recipe we can. Not just because we eat vegetarian style most of the time but because we don't always get to eat balanced meals during the school year when things are crazy.
Protein keeps the kids (and us!) full longer, so we have less of a chance of dealing with hangry girls. That makes me happy!
Bush's Black Beans are nutrient-rich with 7 grams of protein, 6 grams of fiber, and only 105 calories per serving.
Best Black Bean Burgers
2 cans Bush's black beans
1 cup cooked rice
⅓ cup bread crumbs
⅓ cup diced green bell pepper
2 tsp cumin
½ tsp chili powder
1 tbsp vegetable oil
Burger buns
Toppings (I used lettuce, guacamole, and tomato)
Points are calculated for the burger patty ONLY! Be sure to account for bun and whatever toppings you decide to use. Green Plan: 4 points, Blue and Purple 2 Points.
To make the best black bean burgers, start by draining and rinsing Bush's black beans, then hand mash in a large bowl using a fork or pastry cutter.
Add in rice, bread crumbs, bell pepper, cumin, chili powder, and half of the vegetable oil. Mix thoroughly.
Form into 6 patties (size depends on your buns – you want it to fill the bun), and brush each with remaining oil.
Bake in the oven for 15 minutes at 350 degrees, then finish off in the skillet by heating oil over medium-high, and sauté for 3-4 minutes on each side.
Serve on buns and with your favorite toppings. Remember to count points for your bun and toppings!
