I am always beyond excited about “Fall” weather. Why is “Fall” in quotes? Oh, I am so glad you asked. It’s because fall weather in Arizona is not really like fall anywhere else in the country. It can still be 90-100 degrees. Even so, It does make me happy to start to think about decorating, fall recipes, Thanksgiving plans and all those leftover turkey sandwiches I am about to enjoy.
With fall on the horizon in Arizona, I still won’t plan on wearing my hoodies, uggs or fingerless gloves (all some of my favorite winter things) until late December or even early January. That being said, the very first day it’s under 100 here, I begin to change out my wardrobe!
Yes!
A Warm Fall Doesn’t Mean We Don’t Get To Enjoy A Few Fall Recipes
Another way to enjoy fall, for me, is cooking. Yum! Whether it’s soups or sandwiches, warm foods get me in the mood to watch those leaves change. Wait, Arizona doesn’t have leaves. But you know what I mean.
I’m also spending my time drinking my pumpkin spice lattes, visiting apple groves, going to football games and grilling up turkey and/or grilled cheese sandwiches with as many different soup recipes I can find.
If you are in the mood for fall and the holidays to come, be sure to check out my post on the 20 plus most interesting Christmas trees I’ve seen. I started that post in 2016 and add to it every year. There are some doozies.
Getting Back To Grilled Turkey Sandwiches
I really like to use Sara Lee® Artesano™ Golden Wheat Bread as an ideal base for my grilled cheese sandwiches and my leftover grilled turkey dinner sandwiches.
The bread is made with olive oil, sea salt, and a touch of honey (but no high fructose corn syrup!), I like to enjoy my sandwiches with a cup of green tea too.
Trust me, there is nothing worse than a wimpy grilled cheese or grilled turkey sandwich. With this bread, you can really pile it on. So I do! I don’t skimp on the meat or the cheese because I know the thick, flour-dusted slices will hold stong. They always do and without overpowering the sandwich’s delicious meaty and cheesy flavor.
I don’t know about your house, but with all the holiday festivities right around the corner, there’s going to be loads of leftover turkey. The more the merrier. I like to use this turkey with white Cheddar cheest to make the perfect turkey melt sandwich. Sometimes I add a little barbeque sauce and red peppers to the sandwich to give it a nice kick and crunch.
The thick slices of Cheddar are the perfect combination with the spicy barbecue sauce. Here, I added a slice of cheese to the top and bottom so it would all melt together seamlessly. I think next time, I’ll chop it up so the pieces melt in between the turkey rather than just to the bread.
Either way, you can’t go wrong – there’s no bad way to do it.
It was easy to grill the Sara Lee® Artesano™ Golden Wheat Bread to a crisp on the outside while keeping it soft and fluffy on the inside. I love that I am able to stuff the sandwiches so they are thick and filling. I like to serve them with a side of broccoli soup – it’s one of my favorites.
