Leftover Grilled Turkey Sandwich | Sara Lee Artesano Golden Wheat Bread

The girls are beyond excited about “Fall” weather. Why is “Fall” in quotes? Oh, I’m so glad you asked! Fall weather for Arizona is still 90-100 degrees, so I don’t plan on wearing hoodies until winter time. With that being said, the very first day that was under 100 degrees, the girls were all “OH MY GOODNESS IT’S HOODIE WEATHER! YES!”. Jenelle has worn a hoodie to school all week. Thankfully, our weather has been amazzzzzing! 88 degrees this morning. Woo hoo! Fall, here we come!
Just because it’s warm outside doesn’t mean we can’t get into Fall mode in other ways. Obviously the best way is by cooking. Yum! Whether it’s soups or sandwiches, warm foods get us in the mood for leaves changing. Wait, Arizona doesn’t have leaves. But you know what I mean. Pumpkin patches, apple picking, football games, and homecoming dances come to mind. Now that we finally found the perfect dress for Jenelle, we can move on from that mess.

Sara Lee® Artesano™ Golden Wheat Bread is an ideal base for your grilled cheese creations this Fall. Made with olive oil, sea salt, and a touch of honey (but no high fructose corn syrup!), Often consumed with a cup of green tea, the kids instantly fell in love. There’s nothing worse than a wimpy grilled cheese, so I was glad we could pile it on. We didn’t skimp on the meat and cheese because we knew the thick, flour-dusted slices would hold strong… and they did, without overpowering our sandwich’s cheesy flavor.
With holiday festivities right around the corner, there’s going to be loads of leftover turkey. We decided to use turkey and white Cheddar cheese to make our grilled sandwiches. Our homemade barbecue sauce had peppers from our garden, which gave the sauce a nice kick.
The thick slices of Cheddar were the perfect combination with the spicy barbecue sauce. I added a slice at the top and at the bottom so it would all melt together seamlessly. I think next time, I’ll chop it up so the pieces melt in between the turkey rather than just to the bread.
It was easy to grill the Sara Lee® Artesano™ Golden Wheat Bread to a crisp on the outside while keeping it soft and fluffy on the inside. I love that we were able to stuff the sandwiches so they were filling. We served them with a side of corn chowder, but that wasn’t as well received as the sandwiches were!
RECIPE – Makes 4 sandwiches
2 cups shredded leftover turkey
Spicy BBQ sauce
4-8 slices White Cheddar Cheese
8 slices Sara Lee® Artesano™ Golden Wheat Bread, buttered
Mix the turkey and the BBQ sauce. Layer cheese, turkey, cheese, on buttered Sara Lee® Artesano™ Golden Wheat Bread. Spray the pan so it doesn’t stick. Grill until perfection.

This is the perfect leftover meal from Thanksgiving. I know Thanksgiving is coming in a month and I’m trying to find as many recipes as I can for all the leftovers. I am definitely going to add this to my list.

Now this is a great way to use that leftover turkey. It sounds really good with some spicy BBQ sauce. We’re going to have to start doing this every year!
