Mantras for Weight Loss

A mantra is a positive way to verbalize what you want.

A mantra is a phrase that is repeated either out loud or silently to yourself with the goal of helping you achieve something.

Here are some of the ones I’ve been using to help me with my weight loss. Say them daily. Say them hourly. Say them when you’re ready to give up and don’t think you have any strength left. Say them to get through that last set of crunches.

Don’t break all the china.

This one is so important to me. I was eating well for two straight weeks. I didn’t have any slip-ups, I was doing great! Then I pigged out at a pizza buffet. I figured, well screw it, I already messed this day up so I might as well eat some more. But that’s not how it should be. If you drop one plate and it shatters, do you just pick the rest of them up and break them as well? Of course not! Your weight loss should be no different. Screw up? Fine! Fix it. Get back on track. Start over. Just do it.

No food is bad.

I have to repeat this one when I’m saying “I can’t have that”. We all want the forbidden fruit. If I say I can’t have chocolate, that just makes me want it more. There aren’t any certain foods that are bad, or off limits. Everything just needs to be eaten in moderation. You can have a few pieces of that chocolate bar, just don’t eat the whole thing. Save half for another day.

The pain of discipline is less than the pain of regret.

It absolutely kills me to not be able to eat Mexican food, or at that buffet… or whatever the case may be. Yes, I could eat it in moderation, but that doesn’t usually happen. However, the pain of disciplining myself is much less than the pain of gaining 3 pounds.

No matter how slow you go, you’re still lapping the person sitting on the couch.

I say this one when I’m on the treadmill! I hate the treadmill… ugh! So even when I’m walking slowly, I remind myself that I’m still lapping those on the couch. Go!

Is it worth it?

When you’re reaching into the pan for a second helping… ask yourself this question.

Nothing changes if nothing changes

Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels.

Don’t be a fat girl. Don’t be a fat girl.

Go! Go! Go!

Would I rather have that or reach my goal?

Eat to live, don’t live to eat.

Will you remember this meal next week?

    This is a big one for me!!

    I think saying stuff to yourself is soo important. Weight loss really is a mental game. Lately, I have been saying “I can have some more later” whenever I want to give myself an extra helping. I usually forget about the second helping so I eat less and am losing weight . . . slowly but at least I am going down.
