Where to Find Free Images for Your Blog

If you're looking for free stock photos for your blog, look no further! I love using stock photos on posts if they don't have any images already, or even just to dress them up. Before using photos from any of these websites for your blog, review their terms of use.

PRO BLOGGER TIP: Paid (but affordable) stock images are great, too. Try these.

free stock images

1. Free Digital Photos

Freedigitalphotos requires a linkback/credit but makes it easy. You just copy and paste. Their search bar doesn't turn up much when you're super specific, but the quality of photos is great.

2. Every Stock Photo

Search engine for free photos – membership is free.

3. Free Pixels

Free stock photography for any use. I love using the tag cloud to browse their 3,000+ images.

4. PhotoGen

High-resolution images available for free download, no sign up required.

5. MorgueFile

These aren't usually very high quality, but are more “real life” photos. I've used a few for articles I've sold.

6. Free Stock Photos

Download free images to use for professional or commercial use. I love the weather category.

7. Unsplash

These photos are amazing. Mostly scenery. 10 new photos added every 10 days.

8. Free Range Stock

Free membership, full of high-resolution free stock photos and textures. Images are at least 2400 x 1600, and can be used for personal and commercial use.

9. Mayang’s Free Textures

Free texture library with over 3,800 free high-res textures available to download. Great for designers

10. Photopin

Photo Pin is a free tool that helps bloggers and designers find beautiful photos for blogs and websites using Creative Commons licensing.

11. ImageBase

Free high resolution photos and PowerPoint Templates.

12. Turbo Photo

Download over 2,000 free stock images.

13. FreeFoto

Over 3,000 categories and over 100,000 images! A link back and attribution are required for some.

14. BigFoto

Great variety of free images, sceneries etc.

15. StockVault

Over 13,000 free stock photos. Also has lots of helpful tutorials!

16. Geek Philosopher

Beautiful photos! Required to post a link back/credit.

  1. Great post! I’ve been looking for some websites to get stock photos from. I used to use Stock.Xchang way back when. I don’t know if they’re still active.

Also, WikiCommons can be a good place for blogs talking about celebrities, tech products, etc.

  2. Thank you for this! I haven’t used photos from other places because I’ve never known how it all works, but this is really helpful!

    Fatima :)

  3. Great list, thank you!

Like Kim, I’ve typically use morgueFile for images. Can’t wait to check all of these out & see what I’ve been missing. :)

  4. oh thanks for sharing this, though i would always try to use my own photo, sometimes I don’t have any so these sites can be helpful in the future♥

  5. Thanks for this list. I’m having trouble to look a wonderful image for my blog (and of course it must be free). RIght now I just use image from FLickr but I cant find the image that I’m looking for.

  6. I love but lately I’ve been using my own images with slight alterations using QuotesCover. I like them better because they are more unique.

Thanks for sharing your favourite tools!

  7. I use Flickr’s Creative Commons, and make sure I look for photos that only require attribution. There are a TON of options and you can search very specifically, since it’s all user-generated content.

  8. I have never used images other than my own or from shopstyle so this is a great resource. I really want to build my blog in 2014 and this will be a great help.

  9. Great list! I’m going to checkout each and everyone of these links. While I like taking photos, sometimes its hard to get the right one. Thank you for sharing this list!

  10. Great info, thanks for the links above. I’m sure these will get used as we post updates in the future. We’re just trying to create content at the moment, so that there’s good stuff on our site when organic referrals kick in. Finding images that are free of copyright license is an ongoing problem.

  11. I love flickr – thouands of photos there that can be used for commercial purposes. Only thing is you have to attribute to the author… not sure of that’s a problem when it comes to pictures for blogging and social media….

  12. This is a great resource. Thank you! However, I’m finding that a lot of these sites aren’t free after all but instead ask you to purchase credits to then buy the photos. Is there a catch I’m missing?

    1. Some do require you to sign up for a free trial, but you shouldn’t have to pay anything (or buy credits).

  13. Not sure if a fluke or not but the link to Tubo photo was blocked by my anti-virus as a reported trojan. Just mentioning it in case you wanted to check and/or remove it from the list. The rest are amazing resources and I’m overly grateful for such a comprehensive listing! Thank you!

  14. What a great resource, Sadie! thank you so much for compiling this list. I am always looking for new images when I can’t seem to get the right ones myself!

    1. The images are $1 each, but yes the minimum each month is $10. Totally worth it if you use that many images – theirs are the best IMO.

  15. Thanks for the great list! Please also check out the world’s largest collection of free, public domain/CCO images, ,with 14 Million Public Domain/CC0 stock images, clip-art, historical photos and more, all in one searchable database. It includes an easy to use meme-maker.
