Saving Money in 2017 is a new series here on Slap Dash Mom. I’ll write one post each week on how I save money, but I’m hoping you’ll submit your tips as well because I might run out considering there are 52 weeks in a year! Leave a comment or send me a PM on Facebook if you have ideas you’d like to share.
Saving Money in 2017 Series: Saving Without Couponing
I gave up deal sites several years ago, around the time I stopped blogging about couponing. I started my coupon blog in 2008 but by 2009 there were so many other coupon blogs I quickly realized that was no longer my jam. I got out of deal blogging and never looked back. I stopped couponing except for a brief time last year, when I built up my stockpile. I will continue to coupon once a year to build a stockpile and save money year-round. But other than that, I don’t really have the time or motivation to coupon right now.
I love couponing but it takes a lot of time and it can be frustrating … especially if the cashiers are crabby! I discovered Dealspotr when I was looking for ways to save money online, and am sharing it with you because it’s free to sign up and is not only a way to save money, it’s a way to MAKE money as well.
Dealspotr is cool because you get to collect “karma” points for helping the deal community discover the best deals each day. Redeem your karma points for Amazon gift cards. There are several ways to earn karma points, but my favorite is by sharing deals. So if you share a working coupon code or sale, you get points. You can upvote and downvote other deals, to move the best ones to the top and to remove bad ones. You also get rewarded for referring new members!
You have to earn 10,000 points to cash out a $10 gift card, but you get 5,000 points just for signing up. You also earn 10% on the points your friends earn if they sign up through you. I earned 100+ points just for validating a deal, which took me literally a minute to do. In the process, I found an awesome “today only” promo code that saved me 50% on a purchase I was already going to make!
I’ll update this post with my progress in a few weeks, because I really want to show you guys exactly how much I earn on Dealspotr VS how much time I spend on the site. I used to spend a lot of time on survey sites and not make a lot of money, so now I choose my sites wisely.
UPDATE after one week: I log in for 15 minutes each day and in 4 days have made almost $40. That’s not a TON of money, but it’s a great way to save up gift cards! I also earned an extra $100 for signing up as an influencer and completing the tasks, so if you’re a blogger be sure to check out the info below about that.
How to Get Started With Dealspotr
Sign up FOR FREE through my link here >>> DEALSPOTR or use code SLAPDASHMOM when you sign up at dealspotr.com and I will earn points when you go through the steps to complete your new member checklist.
As you’re browsing the web, take note of any deals you see! Head back over to Dealspotr and put them in. Wait and watch the votes (and points!) roll in. You earn 25 points for each deal posted, and as you get more deals upvoted, you can post more deals each day. For example, on my account as I was working through my new member checklist, I noticed I can post up to 10 deals each day.
When someone “Spots” your deal, you earn 10 points. This is an easy way to quickly double your points, so it pays to be fast and accurate. Turn off email notifications, unless you want an email each time someone Spots your deal.
It might seem like it would be tough to get to 10,000 points when you only get 25 points for posting a deal, but you can increase your earning power per action when you earn your Deal Rep, or basically improve your reputation by posting awesome deals. You get a 200 point bonus for completing your daily check list, and you earn 10% of your friends’ points if you refer them to Dealspotr.
You’ll receive an accuracy score based on votes, so make sure you’re sharing the best deals to see that score go UP!
