My dog is spoiled. I’m one of THOSE dog people. Sad, right? It’s really funny because, as a teen I had dogs and I loved them.. but it wasn’t until Isis became a part of our family that I truly knew what it was like to be one of those crazy dog people. My girlfriend tried for years to talk me into getting a dog. “No. They’re stinky. They’re messy. They’re loud.” I came up with all kinds of excuses. When her friend said he had a pit bull that he wasn’t able to sell, so he was offering to give her to us, I said fine.. we’ll try it.
Never in a million years did I dream I’d love this dog like one of my kids. It’s insane, I know! So, needless to say, Miss Isis is a bit (bit? HA!) spoiled. I always buy her the best toys, the best treats, and she sleeps on my bed all day long. But she’s also a very good dog. She’s trained (yay, obedience class!), she’s good with the kids, and she keeps me company when I’m home and blogging all day. Sometimes she even shuts the laptop so I will stop ignoring her, no joke!
Today, Saff and I took a trip to Wal-Mart to get Isis some treats. Right now we use the expensive ones for training purposes, but she’s getting so good about training that I thought it was time to try the cheaper ones. I’m glad I did, because $3-$5 a package definitely beats $9 that I’m paying now.
You can see my full shopping trip on Google+ (lots of cute pictures of my little helper, Sapphire), but Isis wanted to do a few tricks for you guys real quick.
She hasn’t cared for Milk Bone treats since we started buying the softer ones, but she gobbled this Milk Bone Trail Mix up! It’s a nice little mixture of real beef and sweet potatoes, and it’s chewy and crunchy which Isis really likes. Isis loves to eat green beans and asparagus, so I figured she’d like sweet potatoes too. I like that you can use one tiny bone or sweet potato as a treat, or you can really reward her with a handful for commands like “come” because it’s the most important one!
Next, we did “down”. This one was hard for Isis to learn at first but she’s got it down now. Ha. Ha. Get it? Down..down… ahh, okay. Maybe it’d be funnier if I said it out loud. Maybe not…
Isis loved the Milo’s Homestyle Kitchen Treats. They’re grilled chicken.
Gobble, gobble. Well, that’d be a turkey. But she gobbled that chicken up!
And a shake! We used to do “high fives” but it’s easier to use “shake” because that’s what most people use. So when someone would walk up to her and go “shake” she’d look at them like “huh?” but now she knows what they’re talking about. :)
Isis shook with each hand paw (sometimes I forget she’s a dog!) for the Pup-Peroni Mix Sticks. I liked these because they took her a little longer to chew up.
Overall, I think her favorite treat was the Milk Bone Trail Mix, then the Pup-Peroni Mix Sticks, then Milo’s Homestyle Kitchen. I love that Isis was willing to try new treats, and that she liked them all! See the rest of the pictures via Google+.
Isis loved the treats so much that we decided to make a basket for our friends! I got a rustic looking basket from Wal-Mart and dressed it up with some paw print ribbon. It only took a few minutes and I think it definitely gave it a more polished look!
Getting ready to head out to deliver the basket!
Just kidding! Isis loves to share. ;)

diane - Oh, what a cutie! And so well behaved! Looks like the treats were a big hit. We have a Dutch Shepherd. Her name is Naughty. (actually, her name is Teyla but since we always call her naughty she responds to that too!) Gotta love those pups!
Determined Momma - She’s so adorable! I love how you’re able to use those treats to get her to do tricks. Mine aren’t good at much more than sit, so I think I’ll try picking some of these up while we’re training!

Jenn [ Crippled Girl ] - Um. Hi. I’m here to steal your dog BECAUSE SHE’S SO FREAKING BEAUTIFUL! My BIL has a blue pit and has made me fall in love with pits in general. Which, clearly, is exactly what I need to do, because having 3 in my house already isn’t insane enough.
But oh. That sweet, precious, angelic little face in the “shake” photo. I would give her every treat in the package with a face like that.

Kristin - Love your dog. I used to have a German Shepherd that was pretty spoiled but soooo good. I had to find him a home because we had a house fire and my house had to be completely renovated (took 4 months). I miss him so much.
I’m renting now and I can’t have a dog and that makes me sad.
But I’m glad you do and that she’s become such a loved part of your family. (and I’m a wee bit jealous LOL)

Elizabeth Towns - Isis is incredible. I spoil my mom’s dog, Rocco. We call him Rockie or Rocco – he answers to both. When my sisters or I arrive at my Mom’s, she knows who it is before we enter the house by how Rockie is acting. He is reserved but a little frisky when it is me, because I play with him and bring him good treats, fun toys and great food. He acts a full out fool when my older sister comes, because there are no boundaries between her and Rockie.
When I was recovering from my first horrid female surgery, I stayed with my Mom. Rockie stayed in the room with me, and at most times, stayed up on the bed with me. He slept with me, and when I was awake, he slept or lay in the bed, making sure I was okay. If he thought I needed help, he would go downstairs and get my Mom or sisters.
He gets all the treats and goodies he wants.
